Choosing a Cable Lighting System
Cable lighting systems are becoming more and more popular, with many new choices becoming available for your selection. These lights can often give the impression that they are floating in mid air, as the parallel cables from which they are suspended are close to invisible. Rooms with loft space or very high ceilings are the perfect match for it.
You will want to do some research before purchasing a system. Be sure you are aware of all the alternatives to cable lighting, and exactly which part of your home you would want to have the lighting installed. While most people will want to hire an electrician or contractor to install the lighting system, some well skilled do it yourselfers may choose to install itthemselves. You should be very knowledgeable about all the components involved in the system before making the choice to install it alone.
The ten gauge tin plated cabled used for your lighting system is produced from Kevlar. While the cables are available bare, an insulated cable will provide greater safety. The cable is adhered to the wall or ceiling using turnbuckles. You can release pressure on the cable by turning the turnbuckle and either expanding or contracting them. The cable is then attached to the wall mounts using anchors.
There are other components that will be needed for your cable lighting system. If, for example, your cable run is greater than 20 feet you will need a vertical support to provide strength. A turn kit is available to alter the direction of lighting for those systems that are set up less than two feet from the top of the ceiling.
